The Magical Bird

This bird with gorgeous coat was seen by Europeans the first time when Spanish conquistadors conquered another Aztec town. In spite of the fact that this bird had strange appearance for Spaniards they finally decided to try it. The conquerors cooked it on a bonfire, then tried it and they were so enthused by the unusual taste of lean, slightly hardish meat. It is no surprise that several pairs of birds were brought by Spaniards for breeding to the Peninsula.

Cows contribute to global warming

Although a cow has no upper front teeth, it grazes up to 8 hours a day, taking in about 45 kg (100 lb) of feed and the equivalent of a bath tub full of water. A healthy cow gives about 200,000 glasses of milk in her lifetime.

Fugu - Try and Die?

More than You Think

Fugu is the Japanese term for a fish native to the Pacific Ocean. The name comes from fuku meaning "to swell" . It is the generic term for any fish in the Tetraodontoid family; these are the 'puffer' fish, also known as blowfish or balloon fish. It is a rather unattractive fish, which has the ability to puff its body up to 300 times its usual volume and extend spikes for protection. The fish pumps air or water into the first two thirds of its stomach. The skin is able to stretch due to collagen fibres that reinforce it, also providing strength. If it is caught and eaten, it has been known to inflate after it has been swallowed, killing the predator, and then gnawing its way out of the stomach. If this doesn't work, the predator will die from the toxin.

Pet Cemeteries

More than You Think

It is a common knowledge that pet cemeteries have appeared not so long ago in the rich European countries.

Pirahna

More than You Think

Well, at first a bit of the origin of the word: in translation from Portuguese the word “piranha” means “a pirate”. Alfred Brem in his book “The life of Animals” wrote about these fish that their gluttony didn’t have limits, they could eat animals who were ten times bigger that they were, even crocodiles tried to avoid a stock of piranhas turning its back on the surface of water pretending that it was not alive… Great, isn’t it? More than enough material to add to the stereotypes about these intimidating creatures…
