What is gout? Gout is a medical condition usually characterized by recurrent attacks of acute inflammatory arthritis—a red, tender, hot, swollen joint according to Wikipedia. It can manifest itself in many forms, but about 50 % of cases starts with the inflamation in the joint of a big toe. The heels, knees, wrists and fingers may also be affected. Of course it is not only necessary to know what products are acid or alcaline, but how to prepare it to preserve nutrients and healthy properties it could give. Firstly, don´t fry food, it loses all this nutritional qualities. That´s why if you want to eat out healthy, Kentucky Fried Chicken, McDonalds, hot dogs is out of the question, you will get only overflavoured, oversalted food with minimum (if not of none) nutritional value. It is better to steam vegetables in their own juice or cook it in patapar paper. Secondly, use fresh, locally grown foods whenever possible. Foods that are brought from far-away places usually are disinfected with pesticides and were harvested still being green, that is of not high value. And lastly, don´t use aluminum cookware while preparing food.
Another point in the healthy diet, emphasied by Edgar Cayce, is that some foods should not be combined because it could cause digestive problems, for example, straches with proteins. Starches and vegetables are fine, as well as proteins with vegetables, but them together – no. It is based on the fact that digestion of proteins requires one type of digestive chemical while digestion of starches requires a different type. Cayce even said that this combination was the leading cause of stomach/digestive upsets. Here is a brief list of food combinations to avoid:
- Two or more starchy foods at the same meal.
- Sugary foods and starchy foods.
- Milk and citrus fruit or juice.
- Cereals and citrus fruit or juice.
- Large quantities of starchy foods with meat or cheese.
- Coffee with milk or cream (but coffee without milk or cream is even healthier than tea)
- Raw apples with other foods.
Attitude and Emiotions
Did you know that if you get upset very easily and all the time it leads to creating stones in kidneys that can be the cause of gout? If you notice this tendency about yourself you should start working on it right now before the next gout attack! Being upset is not only the way to give a way out for pent-up anger but also a main cause of many our ailments, both physical and mental, and gout is not exception. Edgar Cayce noted in one of his readings that even the most nutritious foods can turn to poison in the system if eaten while a person is in a negative frame of mind.
