It sounds to us like a very healthy proverb, isn´t? But it is not what an author of this saying implied!
These words belong to the Roman poet – satirist Juvenal (about 60-140 BC). In our perception it is not exactly the same what sense this great man put into this phrase. There is more irony and sneer in his words about the cult of power and health in Ancient Rome than propaganda of healthy stile of living. The approximate meaning of this phrase is “Is it possible that this mountain of muscles is able to think?”
